About the brand Takumi

The brand, Takumi Japan, is the brainchild of Kyoei Golf, one of the oldest and most prominent golf club forges in Japan. Kyoei Golf has forged prototypes and exclusive series for several renowned golf club manufacturers for many years.

Takumi Japan is located in Ichikawa, a city approximately 30 kilometers north of Himeji in Hyogo Prefecture, which is widely recognized as the heart of Japanese forged golf club production.

In 2018, the company’s president, Sakamoto-san, was inspired to launch his own brand, bringing together all of Kyoei’s expertise and experience: Takumi Japan. The word “Takumi” in Japanese refers to the highest title a craftsman can achieve, symbolizing a level of perfection that goes beyond what is recognized as “mastery” in Europe.

Although the word literally means "craftsman", this translation does not do the concept justice. To earn the title of Takumi, it requires a dedication of at least 60,000 hours of exceptional skill and craftsmanship. This means that a craftsman with a regular 8-hour workday and approximately 230 workdays per year would have to work for over 32 years to achieve this status.

Up to 80 individual process steps are required to produce a - usually handmade - Takumi Japan club. Most of these steps can only be performed by a Takumi.

All designs originate from Keisuke Sakamoto, who personally designs and builds each model, with meticulous finishing by his expert craftsmen. From the first sketch to the finished club head, everything is done under one roof. The classic designs appeal to both minimalists and aesthetes.
