About the brand Makino

Makino Golf was founded in 1988 as "Makino Sports", at a time when the Japanese economy and domestic golf industry were booming. It was common to see golfers visiting luxury golf and country clubs armed with equally luxury golf clubs. Spending up to 1,000,000 yen (approximately €9,000) on lavishly decorated golf clubs was not uncommon.

Makino golf It was during this time that Makino Sports entered the golf market, but the brand stood out from the crowd. It quickly gained fame for its minimalist, hand-forged muscle backs, which were made exclusively to order. Makino Sports was forward-thinking and developed a loyal following among advanced players and tour professionals, who actively supported the brand. Unfortunately, the number of golfers who embraced the company's clean, elegant and simple products remained limited, and by the early 1990s the brand almost disappeared from view.

Twenty-five years later, in 2017, the company was relaunched under new management, with Makino Sports continuing as Makino Golf. With this rebirth, the brand embraced its rich heritage and roots once again. Today, Makino clubs are manufactured using the highest quality materials according to Japanese standards (JIS). All production steps still take place in Japan and are carried out with the same passion and attention to detail by the most experienced craftsmen in carefully selected specialized forges.

The design of Makino golf clubs places a strong emphasis on the clubface, as this is the only part of the club that the player sees when hitting the ball. With this in mind, the company has developed a unique clubface coating. Through an additional process called "ice blast finishing", the chrome layer of the clubface is mattified with dry ice. This results in a matt silver chrome layer that significantly reduces reflections and unwanted glare. The innovative "ice blast finish" technique is symbolically represented in the company's logo by an ice crystal symbol.

In addition, Makino also offers a “Raw Finish” option for its clubs. This finish causes an oxide layer to form on the club over time, which can have a positive effect on ball spin while creating an exceptional feel. With proper care, such as oiling the clubs after use, an impressive golden color can be created and maintained.
